Falstaff Experience

 Friday 12th March 2004

The Falstaff Experience is a museum charting various notable dates of Stratford’s history and housed in Shrieves Barn.  The museum is currently owned by Steve Devey who called in a paranormal team from Fright Nights some months ago due to the amount of paranormal activity experienced, and was recently investigated by Most Haunted during their live show on 28th February 2004.

The investigation was hosted by Fright Nights and attended by a group of fifteen people.  GPRG was represented by Chris Howley, GPRG’s medium Craig Howley and myself.

Equipment used by GPRG during the investigation:

·       E.M.F. Reader

·      Laser Thermometer

·      Digital Recording Device

·     Aerial Thermometer

·      Digital Camera

A general tour of the museum was given by Fright Nights followed by a brief talk on the equipment to be used.  It was at this point that some very high E.M.F. readings were reported at the gate to the museum. This was very unusual as the gate is constructed of thick wood with no electrical cables near the vicinity, also the readings on the opposite side of the gate were normal.  Fright Nights medium reported picking up on the energy of a small child not quite human although was quite vague.  This was a very encouraging start to the evenings investigations.

Location One – Plague Cottage/Stairs

The first location to be investigated was the stairs area next to the recreation of a cottage during the time of the plague which has been an area of high paranormal activity.  Seven of us attended the first location and situated ourselves in various areas.

Various temperature readings were taken during the course of the investigation.  These readings did not fluctuate although many of us reported feeling colder.  As the investigation progressed Craig reported a significant drop in surface temperature at the bottom of the stairs.  I took the aerial thermometer to the area and again a significant drop in temperature was recorded (18.5°c down to 13.8°c).  Due to the unusual temperature reading Craig and some other sensitive members of the group tried to pick up on the energies.

All reported picking up on the energies of an  ‘angry man’.  It was at this time that many members in the group reported smelling fresh meat.  One of the other members of the group got the impression that because there was quite a male dominance on the stairs that the individual being picked up on was feeling intimidated, therefore we all moved to the top of the stairs leaving just one of the female members of the group to see if she could pick up on anything else.

Again the smell of fresh meat was reported by many members along with some unexplainable sounds.  After 15 minutes or so Fright Nights organiser Martin Jeffrey suggested that the three sensitive members of the group (including Craig) form a triangle in the area and focus the energy in the centre.  Craig reported feeling very cold and emotional.  Although he agreed that the individual was very angry he got the impression that this was due to some tragic event which he could not accept.  Chris went down to take some shots using the digital camera.

After spending over 2½ hours in this location we decided to take a break and re-group with the other members.

Location Two – The Old Tavern

Following a short break, the group situated themselves in the re-construction of the old tavern.  In this location we were joined by Fright Night’s Medium – Fiona.  We began this part of the investigation by holding a circle, we then each got into a comfortable place to see if we could pick up on anything.  Fiona said that she was picking up on a spirit named John Davies (this was the spirit who Derek Acoragh was said to be possessed by on Most Haunted Live). Some of the other sensitive members of the group were picking up on energies.  It got extremely cold in this part of the building and
very uncomfortable.  Whilst in this area of the building I had situated myself just under some stairs, whilst there I had a picture in my mind of a little boy.  This little boy seemed very frightened, not for himself but for what was happening to his mother.  Other people in the group picked up on a little boy, however their experience did not tally with what I was picking up.  Some members seemed to see lights from the adjacent rooms, however it should be noted that another group was investigating in that part of the building at the same time.  Other than picking up on the little boy and getting very cold there was nothing else to report from this location.

Location Three – The Old Penny Arcade

The final part of the investigation was in the Penny Arcade, most of the full group attended this part of the investigation.

Again the medium picked up on some energies and Craig reported to be picking up on the vibrations of a woman.  There were various ‘trigger object’ experiments placed in this room, and although some movement was detected it was very slight.

Conclusion

Although some unexplained phenomenon was reported during the evening I was a little disappointed.

Again nothing was actually ‘seen’ although some members of the group do seem to be becoming more adept at picking up on spirit energies.
