Derby Gaol

1st September 2007

Report by Chris Howley

GPRG were pleased to attend Derby Gaol overnight on the 1st of September and would like to thank Ed Felix for his hospitality and making us feel so welcome.

I was met at the entrance to the Gaol prior to the group entering and given a walk round by Ed Felix. I was immediately taken aback by the character of the building and although small was quite excited about the night ahead. It was interesting to note that when Ed showed me the 2nd cell adjacent to the condemned mans cell I suddenly had a pain across the top on my eyes.

After the introduction the group arrived and set up an array of recording devices for temperature, audio, and vision and by 10.30pm we were ready to start our first vigil.

Due to the size of the Gaol and there being 15 of us incarcerated for the night we decided to cover each of the 2 cells and the corridors. The first hour was fairly quiet in activity although 2 members did report seeing a figure at the end of the corridor by the bar area. I investigated as I thought this may have been Ed just checking on us but he was still in the office and had not come out so quite interesting as this sighting was verified by 2 independent witnesses.

While on a break outside a few of the group decided to stay in the corridor leading the the back of the Gaol where the condemned men would have been led to their death. Louise at this point suddenly became very angry with everybody and joined us outside. It took a few minutes for her to calm down and she could not explain this overwhelming emotion at all.

The next vigil took place in cell 2 where we set up a table with a glass this prooved the most eventful as the glass seemed to respond very well to questioning. As a point of note we made sure that fingers were lifted off the glass in turn, however the glass remained very active and spelt out the maiden name of one of the groups guest to try and proove that the the spirit in communication was that of her deceased father. This was quite astounding as the people around the table had not met the person in question until that night.

During this vigil Sharon and Louise sat alone in the corridor leading to the back door and got quite agitated and had to leave. Spoon then went down dressed in some period headwear that he had found and ended up being taken outside in tears which again is completely out of character.

We are currently reviewing the audio recordings and video footage for any anomalies that may have been caught on this evening which we ended at 4.00 am

Further information will be posted in due course.
